Bidding Directory Submissions

What is a bidding directory? A bidding directory is just like any other directory however, you need to bid for position.

If the directory is any good and has a high PR then the downfall for any website is the lisiting will disappear from the page they have bid for position on after another website has placed a higher bid.

The only way a website will get to keep the link listing for a long period is if the directory has a low pagerank or no pagerank at all which may not make it worthwhile submitting to.

Bidding directories are starting to increase in numbers across the web with currently only a handful of bidding directories becoming a real success.

Recently we have seen bidding directories with a high PR7 only for the internal pages to have PR0 after being online since before February 2007.

We submitted a website to the bidding directory and bid for the highest position to have our website listed in the directory thinking it would not be long before the internal pages of the bidding directory receive a staggering PR.

We were mistaken. Google went round on two PR updates and gave nothing to the category of the directory that we had bid for position. To add to the no PR our position had dropped several pages from first category page after other websites had placed higher bids.

Pros and cons
If the directory has a low PR or no PR then there is every possibilty of bidding your website onto the homepage and/or first page of the category you are submitting to. If the directory has a high PR it is very likely you will have to place a very high bid to get on the homepage and then lose the highest spot when someone else places a higher bid which could be minutes, hours, days or even months.

If it is advertising exposure you are seeking there are some very high taffic bidding directories on the web. However, a majority of these directories are promoted sheerly on other directories and therefore the traffic your website will receive may not be of any benefit for generating sales apart from the great exposure it would receive.
